Step 1: Locate the ABS Module
The ABS module in most cars should be located on the driver’s side front corner of the engine compartment. The hard brake lines should be attached to the unit, which should help you locate your car’s module. If you have any trouble finding it, your car’s owner’s manual should have a diagram, or you can easily find a diagram of your car online.
Step 2: Disconnect the Negative Battery Cable
This step is relatively self-explanatory, but to avoid damaging the electrical components of your vehicle, go ahead and disconnect the negative battery cable.
Step 3: Disconnect the Wiring
Depending on your vehicle make and model, this wiring will vary, but should be generally simple to remove. You may have to remove the electrical harness, which houses all of the power and sensors for the module, as part of the wiring. Simply unplug the remaining wires and tuck them to the side of the module. Make sure all wiring is disconnected, so that the module isn’t damaged upon removal.
Step 4: Remove the Mounting Bolts
The tools you use to remove the mounting bolts will vary according to the types and sizes of the bolts on your vehicle, so you may have to experiment to find which ones work. Once you’ve found the correct tool, loosen and remove the bolts on the module. Because these bolts may be rusted, make sure that your tool fits as closely as possible to prevent stripping the bolts.
Step 5: Remove the Module
Once the wiring and mounting bolts have been removed, you are free to remove your ABS module. Gently remove it from the ABS system and send it in to MASrepair.com.
